The Baker's Dozens

Well...we did it! They came by the dozens, those Baker Family descendants. We talked of them tirelessly, the two who began it. Helen and Floyd. There are lots of stories of them that continue to live on. The letter written November 4, 1912 (just four years shy of 100 years ago) still circulates today...the one that starts out "Dearest Boy". The "Quail on Toast" love story lives yet through fond memory. We revere them...shortcomings and all. They are us and we are they in many ways.

We, like they, have many good traits, blended on low speed with a few not-so-noteworthy characteristics, the combination of which makes us who we are. These traits and characteristics define and underscore the things we are passionate about.

The miracle is that, in spite of our differences and the errors we commit on an almost daily basis, we really, really do love each other...not in exactly the same way our progenitors did...but in a way that has been improved and added upon. That is why we feel the urgency to gather together and enjoy one another and proclaim the possibilities for perfection that define family life.
